Documents Delaware can apostille

  • Documents signed by a Delaware notary
  • Documents signed by a Delaware public official
  • Official copies of publicly recorded documents from the issuing Delaware state or county official
  • Documents filed with the Delaware Secretary of State (each certified separately)

The issuing state is what matters, not where you live now. A document issued or notarized in another state goes to that state's office, and documents from federal agencies go to the U.S. Department of State through our federal apostille service.

Delaware requirements to check before you book

  • Notarized documents must be notarized in person; the Division will not apostille documents notarized remotely or electronically.Source
  • Publicly recorded documents must be official copies issued by the Delaware state or county official; these are never notarized.Source
  • Documents filed with the Secretary of State must each be certified separately; one-cover certifications are not accepted.Source
  • Foreign-language documents need an English translation, and both the original and the translation must be notarized.Source
  • Mail requests need a cover memo stating the purpose of the request and the destination country.Source
Notarized documents: the Delaware Department of State does not accept documents that were notarized remotely or electronically for an apostille. If your document still needs a notary, it must be notarized in person. We can send one of our mobile notaries to you.

Good to know

  • Remotely or electronically notarized documents are not accepted for apostille.
  • Out-of-state documents, federal documents, photocopies, and foreign-issued documents are not apostilled or authenticated.
  • Some destinations require a Delaware Notary Good Standing certificate as proof of the notary's appointment.
  • Fees differ for commercial vs personal (non-commercial) use.

About our Delaware apostille service

Delaware apostille and authentication for personal and commercial documents. Choose an Apostille for Hague Convention countries or an Authentication for non-Hague countries, for personal use (birth and marriage certificates, transcripts and diplomas, notarized affidavits, single status letters, powers of attorney) or commercial use (certificates of good standing, certified charter documents, stock certificates, operating agreements, bylaws, board resolutions). Bundles include ordering the certified record from the Delaware Division of Corporations plus the apostille or authentication: certified copies, short-form and long-form good standing certificates, special certificates, annual report copies, and record searches. Trilogy Notary Services LLC provides mobile notary service, files with the Delaware Department of State, and mails documents back nationwide. One booking covers as many documents as you need.

How it works

  1. Book onlineChoose the option that matches your document and destination, then tell us the document type, the country where it will be used, and your deadline.
  2. We review your document firstBefore anything is filed, we check it against the Delaware requirements on this page. If a step is missing, such as a notarization or a certified copy, we tell you what's needed before we file.
  3. Send your original or meet a notaryWe send mailing instructions after you book. If your document still needs to be signed and notarized, one of our mobile notaries can meet you.
  4. We file and track itWe submit your request to the Delaware Department of State with the government fee and follow it until the office releases it.
  5. We ship it backYour documents come back by tracked shipping. If your destination also needs embassy legalization or a certified translation, we can handle that next.

Government processing times are set by the issuing office and change during the year. We don't promise a delivery date that depends on a government office, and we'll tell you the current timing when we review your order.

Common questions

How much does a Delaware apostille cost through Trilogy?

Our Delaware apostille service starts at $375 per document. That price includes the Delaware government fee of $30 per document, plus courier filing, return shipping, and handling. Sales tax, if it applies, and any deposit are shown at checkout before you pay.

Who issues apostilles in Delaware?

The Delaware Department of State, Division of Corporations. Trilogy Notary Services is a private document services company: we prepare and submit your request and track it, but the apostille itself is issued by the state office.

What does Delaware require before it will apostille a document?

Notarized documents must be notarized in person; the Division will not apostille documents notarized remotely or electronically. Publicly recorded documents must be official copies issued by the Delaware state or county official; these are never notarized. We check for these before anything is filed.

Can Delaware apostille an FBI background check or another federal document?

No. Documents issued and signed by a federal agency, such as an FBI background check, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, not by the Delaware Department of State. We handle those through our federal apostille service.

What if my destination country is not in the Hague Apostille Convention?

For non-Hague countries, Delaware issues this instead of a standard apostille: Authentication. Many non-Hague countries then require embassy or consulate legalization, which we handle through our embassy legalization service. Tell us the destination country when you book.

How long does a Delaware apostille take?

As published by the state when we checked on October 29, 2026: Mail requests are typically processed the same business day; in-person personal-use documents are typically processed the same business day. Add time for document preparation and shipping both ways. Government processing times change and are outside our control, so we don't promise a delivery date.
